Journey Began
Built on the standards of one man.
Desert Sky Tours was founded in 2005 by Late Mr. Himmat Singh Rathore (Lala Bana), a respected name in the tourism circles of Jaisalmer.
Long before Desert Sky Tours came into existence, Lala Bana had already spent years understanding the desert and the people who call it home.
He served for many years as a Manager at Narayan Niwas Palace's Jaisal Tours & Safaris Office — one of the important centres of desert tourism in Jaisalmer at the time.
His involvement in desert tourism dates back to 1987. Through decades of experience, he developed an intimate knowledge of the Thar Desert, its routes, villages, traditions and the people who make this landscape their home.
But perhaps his greatest lesson was not about routes or safaris. It was about people.
He believed that a guest should never feel like simply another booking. Every traveller deserved genuine attention, honesty and the warmth for which Rajasthan is known.

Himmat Singh Rathore began his journey in the desert tourism trade, developing the experience and knowledge that would eventually shape Desert Sky Tours.
Learning Jaisalmer from the inside
As Manager of the Jaisal Tours & Safaris Office at Narayan Niwas Palace, Lala Bana built relationships, learned the desert routes and gained an understanding of what makes a safari truly memorable.

After decades in the trade, he established Desert Sky Tours with a simple philosophy: offer travellers an authentic desert experience backed by honest and personal service.
A life remembered, a legacy continued
Lala Bana passed away in 2013, leaving behind decades of experience, countless relationships and a business founded on trust and hospitality.
The next generation carries it forward
His son, who was trained under his guidance, continues to run Desert Sky Tours with the same principles — personal service, honest advice and a genuine love for the Thar Desert.
